Air pollution due to ultra-fine particulate matter in Lille

Last week, the limit value for ultrafine particulate matter (PM2.5) recommended by the WHO was exceeded for the 60th time this year in Lille. By comparison, there were 37 exceedances in the same period in the city of Paris. This makes the “Hauts-de-France” region one of the regions in Europe where people breathe the worst air. The Rhône-Alpes region, Belgium, Piedmont and Lombardy in Italy are also part of these regions. The problem is that these particles, unlike PM-10, are not listed in the protocol announcing air pollution episodes.
