Pedestrians are less exposed to urban air pollution than car drivers

A study realised in London and Toulouse during the years 2014 and 2016 revealed that pedestrians would be less concerned by urban air pollution than car drivers especially when the car is standing. Actually, people who are enclosed in standing cars are directly exposed to pollutants of the surrounding vehicles as the particle filters can not absorb all particulate matters. Pedestrians, on the other hand, walk more efficiently inside the city and avoid traffic jam. For this reason, they do not stay as long in polluted areas as car drivers.
