Air pollution linked to premature births

An international study published in the well-known Environmental Journal has shown that 18% of premature births worldwide are directly related to air pollution. According to this study, the consequences of air pollution are as important for the fetus as the mother’s age or her socioeconomic background. Southeast Asian countries are among the most affected, with 75% of children being born prematurely due to air pollution, which often leads to high child mortality rates and severe disabilities.
